Bluetti’s Sora 500 Solar Panel: A Game-Changer for Vanlifers

As a vanlifer, I’m always on the lookout for ways to generate more power on the go. That’s why I was excited to test out Bluetti’s Sora 500 solar panel, which promises to deliver a ton of output in a compact package.

What is the Sora 500 Solar Panel?

Performance

However, the output dropped dramatically when I blocked the center four panels, falling to just 50W. This is likely because I choked off the entire array by severing the connection between all four parallel zones.

The Sora 500 is incredibly compact when folded, making it a great option for vanlifers who need to pack their panel away into a small space. It also features an IP67 resistance to dust and water and an ETFE coating that makes it easier to wipe away dirt that interferes with solar intake.

However, the panel can be a pain to set up due to all the hinges and straps needed to support it. This is a trade-off for the compact design, but it’s worth it for the extra power it delivers.

Comparison to Other Panels

The Sora 500 is compared to other popular solar panels on the market, including the Jackery SolarSaga 500 X and the Zoupw 480W. While these panels are also lightweight and compact, they don’t deliver the same level of power as the Sora 500.

The Jackery panel is the output king in terms of Watts per pound and unfolded Watts per square inch, but it’s also heavier and more expensive than the Sora 500. The Zoupw panel is also lightweight and compact, but it’s not as powerful as the Sora 500.
