EIF Invests €50M in Join Capital’s Defence Fund

EIF’s Largest Defence Investment

The European Investment Fund (EIF) has made its largest defence investment to date, committing €50 million to Join Capital’s third fund. This investment is supported by the InvestEU Defence Equity Facility, which aims to strengthen Europe’s defence technological and industrial base.

Join Capital’s Fund III

Join Capital’s Fund III targets €235 million and will invest in 25 early-stage deeptech startups across Europe. These startups will develop technologies with critical capabilities in defence, dual-use, security, and space.

Join Capital has a track record of backing early-stage defence and deeptech innovators, including Optics11, Quadsat, and Kreios Space. These companies are working on fibre-optic sensing, quantum-secure communications, and advanced electronic payloads.

Investment Strategy

Join Capital’s investment strategy focuses on founders whose technologies create an asymmetric advantage for their customers in the military and commercial industry. This approach has a doubling effect, creating both deterrence and economic growth for Europe.

The investment is seen as a strategic move, given the importance of space, security, and defence. The EIF’s Chief Executive, Marjut Falkstedt, believes that this backing will attract additional investments, helping Europe build a robust ecosystem for innovative defence solutions.

Conclusion

The EIF’s investment in Join Capital’s defence fund is a significant step towards strengthening Europe’s defence technological and industrial base. With the support of the InvestEU Defence Equity Facility, this investment is expected to have a positive impact on the development of innovative defence solutions in Europe.
