India’s AI Landscape Just Got More Interesting
I’ve been keeping an eye on the AI chat app scene, and it’s no secret that the competition is heating up. With global players like OpenAI, Anthropic, and Google dominating the market, it’s tough for new entrants to make a splash. But Sarvam, an Indian AI startup, is hoping to change that with the launch of its Indus AI chat app.
What’s Indus All About?
Indus is a chat interface for Sarvam’s newly announced 105-billion-parameter large language model, the Sarvam 105B model. The app is currently available in beta on iOS, Android, and the web, and it allows users to type or speak queries and receive responses in text and audio. I’ve had a chance to play around with the app, and I’m impressed with its capabilities – but I’m also aware of its limitations.
The Good, The Bad, And The Ugly
One of the things that sets Indus apart from other chat apps is its focus on local languages and users. As someone who’s interested in the potential of AI to democratize access to information, I think this is a great move. However, I’m also concerned about the app’s limitations – for example, users can’t delete their chat history without deleting their account, and there’s no option to turn off the app’s reasoning feature, which can sometimes slow response times.
Can Indus Compete With The Big Players?
I think it’s too early to say whether Indus can take on the likes of OpenAI and Google, but I do think it has potential. Sarvam has raised $41 million to date from investors, and it’s clear that the company is committed to making a splash in the AI chat app market. However, I’m also aware that the competition is fierce, and it won’t be easy for Indus to stand out from the crowd.
My Verdict
Overall, I’m intrigued by Indus and I think it’s worth keeping an eye on. While it’s not perfect, it’s a solid effort from a company that’s clearly passionate about AI and its potential to change the world. As I continue to test the app and learn more about its capabilities, I’ll be interested to see how it evolves and whether it can compete with the big players in the market.
