Pokopia’s High-Tech Future

Pokopia, the latest installment in the Pokémon series, has made me look at the franchise’s high-tech future in a whole new way. The game features a 3D printer, which surprised me, given the other high-tech gear in the series.

Advanced Technology in Pokémon

Until Pokopia, I hadn’t spent much time thinking about tech in the Pokémon world. The series has always featured advanced technology, such as magic PCs that can digitally store living creatures. However, in Pokopia, technology is not guaranteed to work, and pokémon are slowly repopulating the ruins left in their wake.

For example, the PC storage system can’t keep working without regular maintenance, and the pokémon are showing up now because the storage system has finally failed. This fallibility made me pay closer attention to the technology in Pokopia and see the high-tech world of Pokémon in a new light.

Real-World Objects and Technology

In Pokopia, ordinary objects like lamps, TVs, and vending machines often need electricity to work. Meanwhile, magical Pokémon technology can only get you so far. You have to create homes for pokémon to live in, which sometimes means growing a flowerbed, but in many cases, you have to acquire old human technology and supply it with electricity.

Additionally, you have to set up utility poles and enough power generators to supply all the electronics on your grid, which takes time, resources, and planning. The dichotomy between ordinary and futuristic tech makes Pokopia feel stuck out of time.

Finally, the 3D printer is a game-changer, allowing you to take a picture of an object and print a copy of it using rare materials. It’s more advanced than in real life, but it doesn’t take much imagination to get there.

In conclusion, Pokopia’s high-tech future is a fascinating aspect of the game. The combination of advanced technology and real-world objects creates a unique and engaging world.
