Recteq Flagship 1600 Review: A Smoker’s Dream
As a smoker enthusiast, I was excited to try the Recteq Flagship 1600. With its large cooking surface and heavy smoke production, it’s a significant upgrade from my previous Traeger Woodridge Pro.
Setup and Ease of Use
Setting up the Recteq wasn’t as straightforward as the Traeger, but the end result was worth it. The huge pellet hopper and rounded barrel make it feel like a real pitmaster’s tool. However, the larger footprint and less ergonomic design require more experience or patience.
For example, attaching the bull horns to the lid or flipping the barrel onto its stand would benefit from an extra pair of hands. Meanwhile, the burn-in cycle at 400 degrees Fahrenheit is necessary to ensure a clean start.
Performance and Features
The Recteq’s firepot is located in the center of the barrel, providing even heat distribution. Additionally, the symmetrical heat spreader and drip catcher help mitigate heat issues. The result is a 7-degree difference between the center and outer edges of the middle grate.
Furthermore, the Recteq produces more substantial smoke rings and juicier interior than the Traeger. It heats up faster and produces more smoke at lower temperatures, making it ideal for chicken and pork belly.
Conclusion and Recommendation
In conclusion, the Recteq Flagship 1600 is a worthwhile upgrade for serious smokers. While it may require more setup and maintenance than the Traeger, the excellent heat distribution and powerful smoke make it a dream to use.
