United Airlines Enforces Noise Rules
United Airlines flyers will experience a little more peace in the air as the company steps up enforcement of its noise rules. Meanwhile, the airline reserves the right to remove, and even ban, passengers who do not use headphones to listen to their music, movies, and social media feeds.
Contract of Carriage Update
According to the United contract’s Refusal of Transport rule, the company has the right to refuse transport on a permanent or temporary basis or shall have the right to remove from the aircraft at any point, any passenger for the following reasons. Additionally, the list now includes passengers who fail to use headphones while listening to audio or video content.
For example, most carriers have policies that urge fliers to use headphones during flights. However, United appears to be the first to include headphone wearing in its passenger contract with explicit means to enforce the policy.
Industry-Wide Disruptions
Across the industry, more and more air travelers are reporting passenger disruptions on flights, including violent altercations with fellow flyers and airline staff. Therefore, it is essential to maintain a peaceful environment on flights.
Finally, by enforcing its noise rules, United Airlines aims to provide a more comfortable flying experience for its passengers. Furthermore, this move may encourage other airlines to follow suit and establish similar policies.
Some key points to note:
- United Airlines has updated its Contract of Carriage to include headphone usage as a requirement.
- Passengers who fail to use headphones may be removed from the flight or banned from flying with the airline.
- Other airlines, such as Southwest and Frontier, also have policies encouraging headphone usage during flights.
